The Midterm Meeting of the International Color Association (AIC2007) was held in Hangzhou, China from the 12th to 14th of July 2007. The AIC Congress is one of the biggest meetings in colour and image reproduction field. The theme “Colour science for industry” covered a wide range of the topics related to the application of colour technology in manufacturing and product research. It included the quality of imaging, textile production, printing, paint manufacture, television production and technology.

The AIC2007 was organised by the Color Association of China. It attracted over 120 registered participants from 20 countries, 4 invited lectures, 51 oral presentations in 7 sessions and 32 posters presentations.

Among other aspects, during this meeting:

The conference began with invited papers. J. Schanda gave a presentation of two methods developed to decrease the measurement uncertainty of tristimulus colorimeters. Robert Hirschler’s talk was about to collect information on commercially available colour mathcing booths and other light sources for visual colour control. Changyeong Kim gave a broad overview of colour technology which is important for the direction of development of the next generation television. Roy Berns’ talk was of particular interest to us. It was an attractive introduction and he pointed out futrue opportunities for colour spaces.

Alan R. Robertson received the 2007 Judd Award and delivered a lecture on “Uncertainty, Simplicity and Reasonableness – Three Golden Rules of Modelling”. His lecture was preceded by the citation of the award, by Roy S. Berns. The session was chaired by AIC vice-president Berit Bergström and, in addition to the current AIC president José Caivano, three former AIC presidents joined the award ceremony: Lucia Ronchi, Mitsuo Ikeda and Paula Alessi. The AIC acknowledges also the contributions from the NCS and the Color Association of China.
Being PhD students in colour science, we presented some of our research in presentations entitled “Investigation of colorimetry for samples on fluorescent paper” and “The Effects of Stimuli Sizes on Colour Appearance for Unrelated Colour under Photopic and Mesopic Vision” in Color Measurement and Instrumentation Session. It was a realy good opportunity for us to attend such a conference. In particular some sessions were suited to our research interests.
We would like to greatly appreciate the Imaging Science Group of the Royal Photographic Society for supporting us with a Travel Grant to participate in the AIC2007.
